They claim the “arbitrary” regulation goes beyond governmental authority.
Airline groups sued the Department of Transportation (DOT) this week to block its new rule requiring the upfront disclosure of hidden airline fees.
The lobbying group Airlines for America was joined by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, and Alaska Airlines in filing this lawsuit, claiming the transportation rule was an “attempt to regulate private business operations in a thriving marketplace… beyond its authority.”
The airlines stated that revealing hidden fees would confuse consumers, adding that requiring airlines to do so was “arbitrary, capricious, an abuse of discretion and otherwise contrary to law.”
The Transportation Department responded that it will “defend our rule protecting people from hidden junk fees and ensuring travelers can see the full price of a flight before they purchase a ticket.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Transportation Department officials as they seek to ensure airline fees are disclosed to consumers.
- For wisdom for the president’s administration officials as they implement rules and regulations regarding private sector fees and disclosures.
